The building is constructed on a concrete slab with the upper levels being either pre-formed concrete or formed and poured in-place concrete in the original structure and steel joists, steel deck and poured concrete in the 1970's addition. Floor coverings are a combination of commercial grade vinyl tile and carpet, and finished hardwood in the gymnasium areas. The facility is heated by hot water boilers with steel radiators. This heat type was typical of this type and era of construction and continues to provide heat for the entire facility. There is no summer air-conditioning. Lighting is generally fluorescent and incandescent. The building has ample electrical service. The roof is a flat steel joist system with steel deck and an EPDM blotter and ballast roof cover system. Interior finish is typical school office and classroom finish with walls typically painted concrete block walls or taped and painted gypsum board. Visitors to Alexandria can fish, picnic and enjoy wildlife viewing. Approximately 22 miles from Alexandria is Rock Creek Station Historical Park. The park is rich in western history, as it is the site where "Wild Bill" Hickok began his notorious career. Rock Creek Station includes 350 acres of prairie terrain, which is still marked with paths from wagons that passed through the Oregon Trail.
